NBA Star Russell Westbrook Helps Launch New Tech Program For At-Risk Youth

Investing in our youth is vital to our future, and it’s been great to see many athletes doing just that.

NBA superstar Russell Westbrook’s ‘Why Not? Foundation’ has joined huge initiatives aimed at getting at-risk, inner-city youth off the streets and into the classroom. Westbrook has teamed up with the LA Conservation Corps and philanthropist Chad Brownstein, to launch the ‘Westbrook/Brownstein Green Tech Program In L.A.,’ according to PEOPLE.

The Houston Rockets star says the program will train students for future careers in coding, computer literacy, and computer engineering. The program will also reportedly include an advanced drone piloting career path program.

Westbrook told the publication, “I feel like this particular program actually impacts the kids’ futures, impacts their mind, the mentality of where they grew up, where they’re from,” He added, “I definitely can relate to that because I feel like I was one of those kids growing up in the city of Los Angeles and finding my way, figuring out what was the best path for me.”

Foundation and LA philanthropist Chad Brownstein. The program will provide digital job skills to at-risk young adults in the Corps and break down the digital divide by providing skill training for green tech job opportunities to 500 Corpsmembers in Los Angeles. The Westbrook/Brownstein Green Tech Program will expose Corpsmembers to achievable career paths and provide technology related tools and education. #WHYNOT?
