The daughter of the late great Stan Lee didn’t hold back her opinion on Marvel and Disney’s short stewardship of Spider-Man. Now that a deal between the two has fallen apart, JC Lee is speaking out against Sony for failing to honor her father’s work.
Lee started off by saying she thinks the battle of Spidey rights is ultimately good for the character. Similar to the comic book world, Lee said that giving many people a shot at creating their spin on it could be beneficial, according to Complex.
“Marvel and Disney seeking total control of my father’s creations must be checked and balanced by others who, while still seeking to profit, have genuine respect for Stan Lee and his legacy,” she told TMZ. “Whether it’s Sony or someone else’s, the continued evolution of Stan’s characters and his legacy deserves multiple points of view.”
However, in regards to Disney, she claimed the powerhouse wasn’t one for human connection, noting that nobody contacted her family following Lee’s death.
“When my father died, no one from Marvel or Disney reached out to me. From day one, they have commoditized my father’s work and never shown him or his legacy any respect or decency,” she said according to the report. “In the end, no one could have treated my father worse than Marvel and Disney’s executives.”
With JC happy to see Spider-Man free, plenty of fans are upset about the idea of the Avenger not making a return. It’s reported fans are now petitioning the studios and even considering marching into the Sony offices to urge that Spidey’s current story continues.
