Romeo Miller and his father Master P sat down with The Breakfast Club to discuss their departure from We TV’s Growing Up Hip Hop, new business ventures and their mission to tackle issues within the Black community.
Master P and Romeo Miller are long-standing members of the Hip Hop community, who have continually promoted financial literacy, authenticity as a business, and the overall betterment of the Black community. One thing the father-son duo understands well is how to get a bag, as well as knowing when to turn one down. Romeo says that was the case when he and his father decided to walk away from the hit reality show, GUHH.
“I’ve been in this business for 19 years. I’m at a place where it’s all about my inner-peace. It’s all about mental health, and it’s about growth. … It’s not about the money. I’m the highest-paid on the network. I had to walk away because I can’t sell my soul for money. I can’t sell my soul for a storyline. … It’s fake drama for no reason,” said Romeo.
Moving on from the show, the two have set their focus on building the Black community and encouraging people of color to invest in and own their own companies. Master P used his partnerships with Rap Snacks and his new brand of noodles Rap Noodles, as examples of how he’s transcended the idea of what a rapper can be.
“Since we look like us, we think that we shouldn’t do business with us. We have these great athletes, but we don’t own nothing outside of the basketball… We have to start thinking ownership.” He continued, “These products that we make we are able to give back. Like with the Biggie product, this is going to his foundation. … This is a way to show this culture, this generation how to be entrepreneurs.”
