An elderly woman died after being attacked in a Brooklyn hospital for not or practicing social distancing, police sources said Sunday.
According to the N.Y. Post, police sources said the 86-year-old woman, Janie Marshall, was punched by a patient in Woodhull Hospital just after 2 p.m. on Saturday. The senior was awaiting treatment for bowel blockage at the hospital in Brooklyn.
Marshall was in the Emergency Room at the city-run Woodhull Medical Center when she was struck in the face by a 32-year-old patient who was awaiting psychiatric treatment. The woman had gotten out of her nearby bed to launch the seemingly unprovoked attack, eyewitnesses said.
The elderly woman was knocked off her feet and cracked her head on the ground. Her attacker allegedly told a Health and Hospitals Corp. police officer that she did it because Marshall “didn’t stay more than 6 feet away.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Marshall died about three hours later, while hospital workers were waiting to give her a CT scan. The police source says hospital workers didn’t call cops in the 79th Precinct until 10:30 p.m. because the medical center was flooded with patients.
The female patient who shoved the elderly woman was initially given a summons for disorderly conduct, but cops are now seeking to arrest Marshall’s alleged attacker on upgraded charges.
