A video that went viral this week appears to show a man confronting a group of teenage girls who were gathered outside during the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the Washington Post, the incident happened in Louisville on a Friday night. The man was later arrested and identified as John, a physician, who was charged with strangulation and harassment and placed on leave from his job.
Louisville police said in a statement to local media that they do not advise people concerned about social distancing to confront others, especially physically.
A witness told local station WLKY on Sunday that John and a woman approached the group near the Norton Commons Amphitheater and delivered an angry, profanity filled rant about the teens being out during social distancing guidelines.
In the 59 second clip, recorded by someone involved, he appears to grab one of the girls until a young man steps in and tells him to back off. According to an arrest warrant obtained by WDRB, he allegedly choked one of the teens for several seconds before bystanders intervened. The teen, who has not been identified, had a red mark on her neck and was not hospitalized.
John was released from Metro Corrections on his own recognizance on Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 8. The charges are allegations, and he had not publicly responded in the reports available at the time.
