In a disturbing video that went viral this week, a middle-aged white man seemingly attacks a group of teenagers, angry because the young girls were socializing amid the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the Washington Post, the incident occurred in Louisville, last Friday night, and the man was later arrested and identified as John Rademaker, a physician, who has been charged with strangulation and harassment, and subsequently, placed on leave from his job.
“Obviously, we do not advise individuals concerned about social distancing to take matters into their own hands and confront people about it, especially in any physical way,” Louisville police said in a statement to local media outlets.
One of the witnesses contacted local news outlet WLKY on Sunday, saying Rademaker and a woman approached them near the Norton Commons Amphitheater.
The victim explained that the couple fired off a profanity-filled rant to express their disapproval of the teenagers being out while COVID-19 social distancing guidelines were in place.
In the 59-second clip, recorded by one of the people involved, Rademaker can be seen assaulting one girl until a young man intervenes, telling him to back off. According to an arrest warrant obtained by WDRB, Rademaker choked one of the victims for several seconds before bystanders stepped in. The teenager, who has not been identified, suffered a red mark on her neck but was not hospitalized.
Rademaker was released from Metro Corrections on his own recognizance on Tuesday, and is now scheduled to be arraigned on May 8.
