In the wake of the release of Michael Jordan’s ESPN docuseries The Last Dance, reports suggest a couple more documentaries may be in the works.
Last week, reports surfaced of a potential Kobe Bryant documentary after sources revealed Bryant allowed his film crew to document his final season.
Now, Miami Heat legend and USA Basketball gold medalist, Dwyane Wade, says he’s producing a documentary about the 2008 USA men’s basketball team that won gold medals during the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
” We’re doing a documentary on the 2008 Redeem Team… It’s something that we’ve been working on for the last year or so,” Wade said on the Platform podcast. “For me, that was a big year, 2008. I had to kind of redeem myself because everybody thought I was done.”
Wade led the USA men’s basketball team in scoring, averaging 16 points per game. During the podcast, Wade also reflected on playing with his mentor, Kobe Bryant.
” We get into competition, he’s [Kobe] talking to other players in their language, and we don’t know what he saying,” Wade recalled.
“And just even being around him, we’d go around in the athlete village … You see the Jordan doc and how everybody ran up on Jordan when he went out to Paris?… That’s how it was in China for Kobe …he’d be able to talk to everybody in their own languages.”
The 2008″ Redeem Team,” led by Byrant, also included NBA superstars Lebron James, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh.
” That was an amazing time, man, and that team, man? Oh my gosh.” DWade said.
