Two men and two teens that broke into Pop Smoke’s Hollywood Hills rental residence are now being charged with murder. Because of special circumstances, the death penalty is on the table.
On Feb 19, Pop Smoke was gunned down during an apparent home invasion in California. Earlier that day, the rapper had seemingly unknowingly posted the address of the home, while showing off gift bags that he had received.
According to law enforcement, Pop Smoke was at the home when around 4:30 a.m., 2 men wearing hoodies and masks broke into the house. Sources informed TMZ that the two men fired multiple shots, critically wounding the rapper. Afterward, the men were seen leaving on foot. The rapper was rushed to a hospital in West Hollywood, where he was pronounced dead.
Four days ago (July 9), outlets mentioned that 5, not four people had been arrested in connection with the rapper’s murder. Via a tweet, the Los Angeles Police Department announced:
“LAPD Detectives have arrested three adult males and two juvenile males related to the Feb 19th murder. We will provide further details as they become available.”
The arrest was made six days after Pop Smoke’s posthumous album, ‘Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon,’ was released.
Now, according to TMZ, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office announced criminal charges against 19-year-old Corey Walker and 18-year-old Keandre Rodgers, the older two out of the four. Both Walker and Rogers have been charged with murder with “special circumstance allegations that the killing went down during the commission of a robbery and burglary.”
The outlet also notes that in the D.A.’s Office complaint, gang and gun allegations were made as well.
Due to the other two suspects being minors, ages 15 and 17, their names were not released. However, reports reveal that the two teens have been charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court.
If convicted, the two adult men face the possibility of life in prison.
