A Kentucky couple has been placed under house arrest after refusing to sign a self-quarantine order when the wife tested positive for coronavirus.
Elizabeth Linscott said she got tested for COVID-19 because she planned to travel to visit her family in Michigan.
According to the News-Enterprise, she received a positive test result the next day and an email from the health department with a form to sign asking to self-isolate and to let officials know if she needs to be admitted to the hospital.
Elizabeth said she decided not to sign the form because of the wording of the document. “My part was if I have to go to the ER, if I have to go to the hospital, I’m not going to wait to get the approval to go,” Elizabeth told WAVE.
“I had gotten a message from them, a text message that stated, because of your refusal to sign, this is going to be escalated, and law enforcement will be involved,” she said.
And on Thursday, police showed up at the couple’s home and put them under two-week house arrest. They were ordered to wear ankle monitors that will notify law enforcement if they go more than 200 feet from their property.
“I open up the door, and there’s like eight different people,” her husband Isaiah said. “I’m like what the heck’s going on? This guy’s in a suit with a mask, it’s the health department guy, and he has three different papers for us. For me, her and my daughter.”
Elizabeth denied ever refusing to comply. She said she was planning to stay isolated anyway.
“We didn’t rob a store. We didn’t steal something,” Elizabeth said. “We didn’t hit and run. We didn’t do anything wrong.”
The Lincoln Trail District Health Department has declined to comment.
