On Friday night, an unidentified black man was tased and shot by Lafayette Police Officers after responding to a disturbance call around 8 pm at a Circle K gas station on Northeast Evangeline Thruway near the intersection of Castille Avenue, said Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Derek Senegal.

According to Daily Advertisers, officers pursued the victim who walked about a half-mile to the Shell gas station.

The witness that filmed the incident, Rickasha Montgomery, claims that she saw the victim with a knife in his hand. She says that police tased the unidentified man, but he continued to walk.

Montgomery says that she saw about six police officers with guns pulled out they yelled for the man to get on the ground. But when the man reached the Shell gas station door, police shot 11 rounds, according to Daily Advertiser.

“When I heard the gunshots, I couldn’t hold my phone like I was first filming,” the Lafayette woman said. “I feel kind of scared about it. I’m traumatized. You’re so used to hearing about this, but I never thought I would experience it.”

The publication says that Lafayette Police asked for Louisiana State Police to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Authorities have not identified the man but confirmed his death.

The Police Spokesperson would not confirm whether or not the man had a weapon.

Police Chief Scott Morgan reported that at least one officer fired their gun. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is complete.
