Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Claps Back At Republican Critics Who Had Something To Say About Her Wardrobe In Vanity Fair: ‘Tip #1: Drink Water And Don’t Be Racist’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is clapping back at the Republicans who have something negative to say about the fashions she wore on the latest cover of Vanity Fair: “Tip #1: Drink water and don’t be racist.”

AOC, as we lovingly call her, is a trendsetter and trailblazer in a variety of ways. Not only is the 29-year-old the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress, but she’s also one of the few politicians that actually understands the working-class people and fights for their well-being every day. And when you’re that poppin’, you’ll always have haters. AOC’s haters predominately from the Republican Party, who had a lot to say about Ocasio-Cortez’s wardrobe on Vanity Fair cover.

Like most photoshoots, the talent will be given borrowed clothes to use. In Ocasio-Cortez’s case, she wore a $2,850 Loewe suit, $695 Christian Louboutin slingback, and several other expensive apparel items. None of these items were purchased by AOC, yet the red ties weren’t having it online. “How many of our voters owns a $14k outfit?” wrote David Dudenhoefer, a Republican currently running for election to the U.S. House to represent Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. “What a scam. And how can she suddenly afford $14,000 outfits,” wrote another critic on Twitter.

It didn’t take long for AOC to gracefully drag and put the haters in check. “Republicans are Very Mad (again) about my appearance. This time they’re mad that I look good in borrowed clothes (again),” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.  “Listen, if Republicans want pointers on looking your best, I’m happy to share. Tip #1: Drink water and don’t be racist,” she continued.

She then broke down the false accusations that several people made about the shoot and the clothes she wore in it. “The whole ‘she wore clothes in a magazine, let’s pretend they’re hers’ gimmick is the classic Republican strategy of ‘let’s willfully act stupid, and if the public doesn’t take our performative stupidity seriously, then we’ll claim bias.’ GOP, get yourselves together. It’s sad,” she said. She also mentioned that she doesn’t get to keep the clothes in a tweet responding to Laura Ingraham, who attacked AOC online.

But when you think about it, what difference would it make if she could afford those clothes? She’s worked hard, and anything she buys off the fruits of her labor is her business. AOC wasn’t born into money, and she celebrates her upbringing, often telling the story of how she worked her way up as a Bronx native. She highlights how she worked as a bartender and other everyday jobs. Unlike others, who were given a “small loan of $1 million.”
