The Sanford, Florida firefighter identified as one of the domestic terrorists involved in the U.S. Capitol attack has been arrested.
Andrew Williams was photographed as one of the domestic terrorists participating in the attack on the U.S. Capitol last week. According to the Orlando Sentinel, federal authorities arrested the man, and he now faces charges of disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to federal court records. Williams was a paramedic for the Sanford Fire Department; he’d been with the station since 2016.
On Tuesday, Williams showed up handcuffed to the federal courthouse in downtown Orlando. According to William C. Daniels, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Williams was charged by the USAO in the District of Columbia. However, the U.S. District Magistrate Judge Embry Kidd calls for his release, claiming Williams needs psychiatric and mental health evaluation. He will now remain in Florida’s Middle District, but he will leave when he has to travel to D.C. for his upcoming hearings, the outlet reports.
“The United States has indicated you pose a risk of flight and potential danger to your community,” Kidd said. Williams will have to register with pretrial services as well as agree to a $25,000 signature bond. Until his case is ready, Williams will be banned from having or keeping in his Maitland home any “firearm, ammunition, destructive device, or other dangerous weapons,” records state.
Williams’ lawyer, Vincent Citro, said his client did nothing wrong despite footage of his client attacking the U.S. Capitol. “The Capitol Police encouraged despicable behavior, Mr. Williams took part in none of it,” Citro said.
