Chris Webber Developing Limited Series About The Legendary ‘Fab Five’

Another “Fab Five” project is in the works. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cashmere Originals is coming out with a limited series based on NBA star Chris Webber’s  autobiography “By God’s Grace.” The story will detail Shepherding and his “Fab Five” teammates’ time at the University of Michigan.

While Webber’s journey has already been told several times, he is developing a scripted series that will feature the life and times of the “Fab Five” group, which includes, Webber , Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King, and Jalen Rose. The men were seen as the greatest recruiting class in college basketball history, writes Rick Porter of THR. They all came together at Michigan in the early 1990s and went on to win two NCAA championship games. 

The limited series will be based on Webber’s nearly completed autobiography, By God’s Grace. This will be the first time the story has been told by Webber and his colleague Peter Gilbert’s Webber/Gilbert Productions and Cashmere Originals, the outlet reports. The Cashmere Originals is an extension of the advertising and marketing firm the Cashmere Agency.

Webber says this project will explore his time with his teammates. “What I think is different about it is I’ve never spoken about my time with the Fab Five,” said Webber. “There’s a lot of behind the scenes that not many people know about, and it’s about so many things. Hopefully, I’ll be able to express those things, whether it’s about Detroit or the work ethic of the city and the factories — all those things that made us.”

Webber is currently an analyst for TNT; he plans on working with Howard and Jackson as consultants on the project. “Once Chris and I had a chance to get together and hear his vision for Webber/Gilbert Productions and the projects they’re working on and interested in making, there’s definitely an alignment with our vision at Cashmere Originals to tell multicultural stories of inclusion,” said Russell Redeaux, head of development at Cashmere Originals told THR. “With that alignment and me being a guy who grew up in the same era of the Fab Five, it was sort of a dream come true project to bring it into our company fold and work with Chris.”
