A 17-year-old Indianapolis teen killed five family members after his father yelled at him for leaving the house without permission.
According to local outlet Fox 59, the bloodbath started around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, when the teen opened fire after being admonished for leaving the house.
The unidentified teenager’s younger brother said that while he was downstairs in the home with his parents, they heard gunfire upstairs and his sister yelling, “He shot them,” followed by the sound of more gunshots. The younger brother escaped out of a side door and was located suffering from a gunshot wound around the corner from the home.
The boy told officers that his older brother had shot his family. When the officers arrived at the house, they found the bodies of parents Kezzie and Raymond Childs, both 42, their 18-year-old son, Elijah, 13-year-old daughter, Rita, and a pregnant 19-year-old Kiara Hawkins. Hawkin’s nearly full-term unborn baby also passed away.
“Because we had found that young man who has suffered some significant gunshot wounds, and he pointed us in the direction of that Adams Street address, which we had no idea what we would find when we walked in the door there when the officers walked in the door there,” said IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey. “I can’t imagine the horrific nature of what they had to see yesterday.”
The 17-year-old gunman was arrested on Monday after being tracked to a Plainfield, Indiana suburb by police. According to the New York Post, the suspect faces charges of intentional manslaughter with a handgun and attempted murder. He is being held in the Marion County Juvenile Detention facility.
