Universal Orlando is reviewing the next steps for its Dr. Seuss play area named after one of the books pulled from publications.

The theme park is “evaluating” the future of the “If I Ran The Zoo” attraction after the book of the same namesake was pulled earlier this week due to racist imagery. The area is a part of Seuss Landing in Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios. Also at the Landing is a gift shop called the Mulberry Street Store with a Mulberry Street sign, both inspired by “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” another title that was banned.

“Seuss Landing continues to be very popular with our guests and we value our relationship with Seuss Enterprises,” a Universal spokesperson told News 13 in a statement. The company added that “we’ve removed the books from our shelves as they have asked and we’ll be evaluating our in-park experience too.”

The company confirmed that Seuss Landing would remain in place, even if some tweaks do occur in the future.

The titles that have been pulled are “If I Ran the Zoo,” “McElligot’s Pool,” “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!” and “The Cat’s Quizzer.” Dr. Seuss Enterprises decided after months of review to stop publishing the books partly due to how they depict Asian and Black people.
