Beginning April 15th, California will allow private gatherings, indoor concerts, and theater performances to resume.
According to ABC 7.com, the California Department of Public Health announced the changes on Friday as the rates of positive COVID-19 diagnosis nears a record low.
This decision also signals a sharp turnaround from the slow pace California has taken on lifting COVID restrictions and comes as the governor continues to urge people to remain vigilant about wearing masks and social distancing.
In order to attend these public gatherings, people will have to either be tested or show proof of full vaccination. The number of people who can attend gatherings will also depend on each county’s level of restrictions. California divides counties into four tiers based on how widespread the virus is in those areas.
The purple tier is considered the most restrictive. Indoor concerts and theater performances will not be allowed in this tier but will be okay in the red tier, at a 10% capacity for venues of up to 1,500 people and 20% capacity for venues with a capacity greater than that. Capacity limits increase in the lower tiers.
Private events, including receptions or conferences, will only be permitted in the purple tier with a limit of 25 people. They will be allowed indoors in the red tier, but with a limit of 50 people. The capacity levels increase to 200 people if all guests are tested or show full proof of vaccination.
