50 Cent Collabs With Houston Independent School District To Offer Paid Internships To Students

Rapper and mogul 50 Cent is collaborating with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) to offer paid internships.

On Monday, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Fif donated $300,000 to a business-related program the district now offers its high school students who have historically underperformed academically.

The move comes from a collaboration between Houston ISD, Horizon United, and the G-Unity Foundation. The inaugural program the partners created is called the G-Star program, available at Wheatley, Worthing, and Kashmere high schools. “I am honored to be your mayor,” said Turner during a press conference, where he acknowledged the rapper’s move to the city.

According to ABC 13, 50 also donated thousands in Christmas presents last year at the Toyota Center. Now he wants to point his attention to providing funding to programs that cater to academics. “These programs will really get people excited to learn again after everything that’s been going on,” said 50, referring to the hardships many have experienced due to the pandemic.

The internship program will provide students with paid internships and opportunities to learn the business industry and learn from 50 Cent. “A quality of education is one of the best tools we can give students to succeed in the classroom and in their future professional career,” said Turner.

Students will have access to the G-Unity Business Lab, where they will learn about entrepreneurship and how to build a generation of minority-owned businesses, ABC 13 reports. We want to create additional opportunities for young people who are going to be the scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers of the future,” said Turner. And this is just the beginning for 50, he says. “It’s three schools right now, but it’s going to be a lot more; just watch me,” he said.
