Check your freezer if you have frozen cooked shrimp. Apparently, there’s a salmonella outbreak.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the outbreak has been linked to certain frozen cooked shrimp products distributed nationwide.
CNN reported that salmonella was discovered in Avanti Frozen Foods’ shrimp sample, which was collected as part of the FDA’s Imported Seafood Compliance Program.
A statement released on the FDA website stated that Avanti says out of “an abundance of caution” it decided to recall some of its frozen cooked shrimp products that were sold under the brand names 365, Censea, Chicken of the Sea, CWNO, Hannaford, Honest Catch, Meijer, Open Acres, and Waterfront Bistro.
So far, six people have gotten sick from this outbreak, two of which were hospitalized. The CDC says the cases happened in Nevada and Arizona, but the outbreak may have impacted other states.
The company is concerned about products distributed from late December to late February. Evidently, the issue surrounds products with certain bar codes.
Anyone who has bought one of the products bearing a certain bar code can return them from where they purchased it for a refund.
