Netflix might be giving us video games within the next year.
Back in May, Netflix announced the platform hired executives to oversee its potential gaming plans. According to Bloomberg, former Facebook Inc. and Electronics Arts Inc. exec Mike Verdu will be joining the Netflix team as the head of its video gaming department. The streaming service announced the news on Wednesday.
Sometime next year, Netflix will be implementing video games as a new genre right alongside documentaries, comedies and the other categories. We know what you’re thinking: will your subscription cost more? No. At this time, Netflix doesn’t plan on charging users for the addition, Bloomberg reports.
The talk about video games coming to the platform has gone on for over a year now. And it seems gamers can finally get excited about what’s to come.
“Our members value the variety and quality of our content. It’s why we’ve continually expanded our offering — from series to documentaries, film, local language originals, and reality TV. Members enjoy engaging more directly with stories they love — through interactive shows like Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games based on Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel, and To All the Boys. So we’re excited to do more with interactive entertainment,” said the company in a previous statement.
