American Airlines and Spirit Airlines are experiencing “operational challenges including weather, system outrages, and staffing shortages.”
“We’re working around the clock to get back on track in the wake of some travel disruptions over the weekend due to a series of weather and operational challenges,” said Erik Hofmeyer, a spokesperson for Spirit Airlines. “We needed to make proactive cancellations to some flights across the network, but the majority of flights are still scheduled as planned.”
The airline companies are urging customers to check their flight details before heading to the airport.
More than 1,000 flights have been canceled or delayed.
Some news organizations have reported that flight attendants were protesting.
“A few news outlets have incorrectly reported that this may be due to a strike. This is not true. There is no flight attendant strike. Crews are not the issue,” the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA said in a statement.
According to Jalopnik, crews reached their legal flying limit and were unable to work.
