DaBaby has received significant backlash for homophobic comments he made at Miami’s Rolling Loud on July 25. The North Carolina rapper reportedly had an opportunity to make it right but failed to do so. As a result, he has been dropped from seven festival lineups.
Reps for DaBaby reached out to festival promoters and let them know he would send an apology video. The video was scheduled to play before he took the stage at Lollapalooza on Sunday. In the video, DaBaby was supposed to apologize for his offensive remarks and to the LGBTQ+ community specifically.
The video never materialized, and Lollapalooza announced Sunday morning DaBaby would not be performing. On Monday, Governors Ball, Day N Vegas, Can’t Wait To Live!, and Parklife Festival announced he would be dropped from the lineup. ACL Fest, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and Music Midtown all followed suit on Tuesday.
Even though he didn’t deliver on his promise to provide the apology video to promoters, he issued a more formal apology on social media Monday. “I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS, and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless,” he wrote.
Despite the apology, it comes as too little too late to save his performances at the previously mentioned festivals.
