An autopsy report by the Franklin County coroner’s revealed Ma’Khia Bryant was shot four times when she was killed by an Ohio police officer in April. Her death was ruled a homicide.
The report showed that Officer Nicholas Reardon shot Bryant in her back, lower torso, right thigh, and right shoulder during the fateful encounter on April 20th. Reardon responded to the scene in Columbus, Ohio, where Bryant was found yielding a knife after an altercation with two individuals at the foster home over housekeeping. He shot Bryant shortly after arriving and seeing her lunging at a female outside the home. The 16-year-old was rushed to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Following her death, protests erupted, with activists calling for the officer to face charges In her killing.
Last month, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation turned the investigation into Bryant’s murder over to Franklin County Prosecutor Gary Tyack. With these new revelations made in the autopsy report, a grand jury will decide if Reardon will be charged with her death.
