Beyoncé and Jay-Z are Tiffany & Co.’s new campaign stars, which features a never-be-seen Jean-Michel Basquiat painting.
As part of the campaign, Queen Bey also made history. Beyoncé became the first Black woman ever to wear the Tiffany Diamond, one of the world’s largest yellow diamonds, as she and her mogul husband Jay-Z grace the cover of Tiffany & Co.’s new “About Love” campaign.
In a Monday press release, the couple said, “Love is the diamond that the jewelry and art decorate.”
Alongside the affluent couple was a never-before-seen painting by the late and iconic Black artist Basquiat. The jewelry brand said there’s no confirmation on whether the artist made the painting for Tiffany & Co., which is dated 1982 and titled Equals Pi.”.
“We don’t have any literature that says he made the painting for Tiffany,” Alexandre Arnault, the executive VP of products and communications at Tiffany, said. “But we know a little bit about Basquiat. We know his family. We did an exhibition of his work at the Louis Vuitton Foundation a few years back. We know he loved New York, and that he loved luxury and he loved jewelry. My guess is that the [blue painting] is not by chance. The color is so specific that it has to be some kind of homage.”
