The state of New York has extended its eviction moratorium through 2021.
As millions around the country worry about whether or not they will be evicted from their homes following the end of the federal eviction moratorium, New York has voted to extend its eviction moratorium at least until Jan. 15, 2022.
On Aug. 26, the Supreme Court blocked Joe Biden’s temporary eviction ban. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called the Supreme Court’s decision “heartless.”
“Under my watch, here in the State of New York, we are not going to exacerbate what is already a crisis,” said Hochul. “We are not going to abandon our neighbors in need, especially since the State of New York failed in its responsibility to get the money that was allocated by Congress out to the people in need earlier this summer.”
In the meantime, Biden has called on citizens to seek out individual states’ pandemic relief funding.
