Tina Turner has sold her immense catalog, name, and likeness to BMG for an estimated $50 million.
On Wednesday, the Queen of Rock & Roll released a statement confirming that she’d inked the new deal with the German music company. She will continue to be signed under the Warner Music record label, but BMG will be handling the safekeeping of all her past work, which spans 60 years.
“I am confident that with BMG and Warner Music, my work is in professional and reliable hands,” the 81-year-old said in a statement.
The news sent fans into an emotional whirlwind, with many of them believing that the deal was done in response to the singer’s declining health. Robbie Montgomery of “Sweetie Pies” recently did an interview with Black Enterprise, where she stated that her longtime friend, whom she used to sing backup for, was “not well.” Turner suffered a stroke in 2013, and in 2016, she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. The following year, the international star suffered kidney failure.
No matter her reasoning for the new deal, BMG says they are “honored” to be managing the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers musical affairs.
“It is a responsibility we take seriously and will pursue diligently. She is truly and simply the best,” stated CEO of BMG, Hartwig Masuch.
