Lil Wayne is off the hook for a $20 million lawsuit filed against him by his former lawyer.
Ronald Sweeney, who was Weezy’s attorney, filed the lawsuit in California last year. In the suit, he accused the “Something You Forgot” rapper of failing to pay him accurately despite doing legal work for him and becoming his manager at one point. Wayne allegedly refused to pay Sweeney his guaranteed earnings that were outlined in their agreement. This includes 10 percent of the recovery funds from lawsuits, 17 percent in general commissions, and lawsuit 10 percent of the sale of Lil Wayne’s masters. Sweeney also says he is owed money for his “day-to-day management activities.”
Weezy countersued Sweeney and insisted he never enlisted him to be his manager, nor was he a part of the legal team that worked on Wayne’s hefty Cash Money settlement, which is another claim made by Sweeney. Instead, the Grammy award-winning star says the lawyer overcharged him on several occasions.
Though Sweeney’s case was thrown out, he may still refile his lawsuit at a later date.
