A South Carolina nurse has been charged with making fake COVID-19 vaccine cards for several people.
Tammy McDonald, who has been terminated from her position as a director of nursing at a Columbia rehabilitation center, is being accused of creating fraudulent cards on June 20th and July 28th. Investigators say she filled out COVID-19 vaccine cards for patients she knew had not received the shot. McDonald was initially questioned by federal agents on October 22nd but denied ever creating the fake cards. She also claimed that she never had access to the cards.
On Friday, McDonald was charged with two counts of producing fraudulent identification documents and one count of lying to federal investigators. She entered a not guilty plea and was granted a $10,000 bond.
Derrick L. Jackson, with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, slammed McDonald’s actions, which “defrauded and endangered the public.”
Acting U.S. Attorney DeHart had similar sentiments, calling McDonald’s distribution of fraudulent COVID-19 vaccine cards a “direct threat” to South Carolina residents’ well-being.
McDonald is facing up to 15 years in prison for each count if she is convicted.
