The first principal of LeBron James’ I Promise School in Akron, Ohio, has resigned amid accusations she slapped an 11-year-old student in the face.
An investigation into Brandi Davis began in September after she was accused of slapping a student for cursing. The boy’s mother told the Beacon Journal that her son, who was wearing a mask at the time, was struck and that he “had a busted lip and was bleeding.”
Davis texted the victims’ mother to tell her what happened after the incident. When she asked Davis why she would hit her child, she responded that she “just reacted and slapped him.”
“We looked at you like all as a family,” she said. The mother pushed for Davis to lose her job.
The results of the investigation into Davis are currently pending. They will be forwarded to the state of Ohio, which will determine if there will be any long-term consequences regarding Davis’ license.
Currently in its fourth year, the I Promise School is a joint venture between the LeBron James Foundation and Akron Public Schools. It is an elementary school geared toward helping at-risk youth.
The Akron Public School Board is scheduled to vote on Davis’ resignation on Monday.
