An interracial couple in Georgia claims they had a disturbing encounter with a white man who told them he was a law enforcement officer.
The couple says they were driving around looking at Christmas decorations in the Lake Spivey area when they were followed and stopped by a white man who claimed to be with the “Georgia State Patrol.”
Kenisha Finch, who is Black, says she was with her boyfriend Matthew Gaylor, who is white, when they were driving around in a Clayton County neighborhood looking at Christmas lights.
The couple recorded the interaction with the man claiming to be a Georgia State Patrol. In the video, you can hear Gaylor’s response when the random man asked why they were cruising the neighborhood.
“We’re looking at houses,” Gaylor told the man.
“You’re looking to buy a house here?” the man answered back.
The couple said the man gave them a badge number and questioned them about the tags on their car. He also took their picture as they sat in their car just before two other cars joined him and blocked them in. Video of the incident has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.
The couple said the man also threatened them. “He said if you come through my neighborhood again without a tag, I’ll arrest you and your Black thug and shoot you dead,” Gaylor said.
The GSP has confirmed to WSB-TV that they do not have an employee with the badge number given. The agency has also opened an internal investigation, saying it does not tolerate anyone trying to impersonate one of its officers.
