Ne-Yo recently sat down with Page Six, where he discussed the current state of R&B music. The “Sexy Love” singer feels like modern R&B lacks the love of previous generations.
“‘I love you’ became ‘you my b*tch,’ or something like that,” he said. “And it’s like, okay, we got to move with the times but at the same time or whatever, love is not a trend or a fad. It’s not something that is supposed to go out of style. It’s like saying water is going out of style. No, you need it to live.”
He added, “I definitely feel like the way that love has been approached as of late may have something to do with why relationships are not lasting as long as they once did.”
The 42-year-old singer went on to say that people place too many conditions on love nowadays. High expectations, like “if he ain’t got this much money,” or “she ain’t got that much booty,” will stand in the way of real love, according to the crooner.
He suggests people “turn their eyes and ears for a second” and “turn their hearts on.” He said if we can get back to that, it will come back into the music.
