Not even meat is off-limits when it comes to stealing. A meat connoisseur cost a Georgia steakhouse about $15,000 after stealing fine beef, ribs, and steak from the eatery.
In downtown Roswell on Canton Street, Uncle Jack’s reported the theft to local police.
Its owner, Willie “Jack” Degel, said a man broke into a locked meat freezer at the restaurant twice this week, and both times, the sticky finger bandit took boxes of exotic and imported meats.
Investigators identified the alleged burglar as Warren Kearney, 53, and detectives issued warrants for his arrest on two counts of second-degree burglary, a Roswell police spokesperson said.
However, Kearney hasn’t been arrested. According to investigators, employees knew him because he’d recently been hired at the restaurant, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The latest Consumer Price Index reported that the cost of meats, poultry, and seafood had increased 12.2% over the past year.
For now, Degel has beefed up his security by installing more cameras at his eatery and has an incentive for any tipsters that come forward with information. Anyone who can help police will get a complimentary dinner for two each month for the next year at any of his restaurants, he told the AJC.
“Crime is up everywhere. I believe police have been diminished a little bit, and that gives confidence to the criminals. And when crime is up, we all pay for it,” he said.
