The U.S. Department of Justice has formally announced that they have reached a $127.5 million settlement with the families of the mass shooting victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The settlement reportedly includes 40 different civil lawsuits spurred by the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, in February of 2018.
The settlement was approved by the Associate Attorney General earlier this month, and plaintiffs in those cases will dismiss their respective suits with prejudice once settlement proceeds are received.
In a press release, the DOJ settlement said this “does not amount to an admission of fault” by the U.S. government. Victims’ families had pointed to alleged info the FBI received about former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Nikolas Cruz before the shooting spree that left 17 people dead, citing negligence.
