Nestle announced on Tuesday that it is shipping baby formula supplies from the Netherlands and Switzerland to the United States to help alleviate the scarcity in US retailers.
Nestle said in an statement to Reuters that it is bringing Gerber baby food formula from the Netherlands and Alfamino baby formula from Switzerland to the United States.
“We prioritized these products because they serve a critical medical purpose as they are for babies with cow’s milk protein allergies,” the company said. “Both products were already being imported, but we moved shipments up and rushed via air to help fill immediate needs.”
Since US maker Abbott Laboratories recalled dozens of types of its Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare formulas in February, baby formula aisles in US stores have been empty of worried parents.
Reckitt Benckiser is increasing baby formula manufacturing by approximately 30% and rising delivery frequency to retailers to combat a widespread shortage in US supermarkets.
