The demand for bulletproof backpacks has increased severely since the devastating deadly attack in Uvalde, Texas, killing 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School.
The attack on Tuesday left the world shaken and asking how could this happen again? With confusing timelines and survivors’ stories, companies that sell bulletproof backpacks are seeing a spike in products.
According to Insider, Yasir Sheikh with Guard Dog Security, a company that manufactures and distributes various self-defense products like stun guns, alarms, and pepper sprays, said they’re ‘seeing an increase’ in customers interested in bulletproof backpacks.Â
Retailers that sell the backpacks also have increased products like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.
Guard Dog will also donate the recent proceeds to the organization Make Our Schools Safe. The nonprofit was started by a victim’s parent from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018.Â
Other companies like Wonder Hoodie and MC Armor have reported increased sales. A spokesperson for MC Armor says customers from all around the world are looking to purchase. What makes their products stand out is that they’re for children and are “approved and designed by pediatricians.”Â
States that have been ordering more products like the bulletproof backpacks include Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, California, and Pennsylvania.
