Starbucks’ new chicken sandwich has just been pulled from the coffee chain’s menu after receiving several diarrhea complaints from customers.
The Chicken Maple Butter and Egg Sandwich just made its debut on June 21, but it’s now been ripped right off the Starbucks menu after just one week. Its removal comes after customers complained that the sandwich was sending them straight to the toilet.
And bubble guts weren’t the only issue. One customer said she was diagnosed with the infectious bacterial disease campylobacter after trying out one of the sandwiches days prior. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it’s the most common bacterial cause of diarrheal illness in the country, Fox 59 reports. It’s usually found in raw chicken.
Some folks documented their poopy experience, citing stomach pain and vomiting.
“Suing for the worst diarrhea of my life. i have been living in my bathroom for 2 days now,” one TikToker said in a post. Others commented that they bit into a bone while eating the sandwich, and another person claimed the sandwich was cold in the center of it.
After backlash, Starbucks addressed the issue by pulling the sandwich and sharing in a statement that the sandwich didn’t “meet Starbucks’ quality standards.”
