The University of Michigan’s head football coach Jim Harbaugh says he and his wife will raise children of people who experience unwanted pregnancies.
The Wolverines coach and former quarterback attended a Plymouth Right to Life event last week alongside his wife Sarah, where he expressed his anti-abortion views. Speaking at the rally, he said, “my faith and my science are what drive these beliefs in me.”
During a Monday interview with ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski, the 58-year-old doubled down on these comments. He even took it a step further and further and urged his staff members, children, and players to give their newborns to him instead of choosing abortion.
“Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby,” Harbaugh shared before adding, “We got a big house. We’ll raise that baby.”
Nevertheless, Harbaugh says he respects everyone’s views on abortion but acknowledges that there is “passion on both sides of this issue.”
Harbaugh’s comments come as no surprise, as he is a practicing and devout Catholic. He accompanied his team on a tour of Italy in 2017, which included a visit to the Vatican in Rome.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, barring access to abortion nationwide. The decision has sparked debate from pro-lifers such as Harbaugh and pro-choice activists.
