Due to the window reversal system’s failure to react correctly after detecting an obstruction, Tesla is recalling nearly 1.1 million U.S. vehicles.
Tesla said it would update its automatic window reversal system over the air, covering Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles from 2017 to 2022.
According to Tesla, the recall has not been the subject of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or fatalities.
The NHTSA says that closed windows without automatic reversing systems may exert excessive force by pinching drivers or passengers before retracting, causing injury.
According to NHTSA, the vehicles didn’t meet the power window criteria of a federal motor vehicle safety standard.
In August, Tesla employees found that window automatic reversal system performance had “greater than expected variations in response to pinch detection.”
Tesla concluded that the vehicles’ pinch detection and retraction performance in the test results did not satisfy the requirements for automatic reversing systems requirements.
