Elon Musk seems to be backtracking his remarks after purchasing Twitter last month.
Just last month, Musk declared “comedy is finally legal on Twitter.”
However, in less than two weeks, Musk changed his mind by promising to “permanently suspend” anyone who impersonates another person without identifying oneself as a “parody” account.
Musk launched the war on impersonators after he was impersonated by several Twitter users.
Comedian Kathy Griffin was one of the first to be suspended from Twitter for participating in the trend where people changed their handles to “Elon Musk.” Former NFL player Chris Kluwe was also suspended for impersonating the Telsa founder.
Just last week, Musk stated that users of Twitter must pay $7.99 a month for a verification checkmark, but he did not specify how the site will distinguish between a real user and the fake user.
In response to a tweet, Musk said, “Twitter will suspend the account attempting impersonation and keep the money! So if scammers want to do this a million times, that’s just a whole bunch of free money.”
