Comedian Jay Leno is headed home after more than a week in the hospital, where he was treated for severe burns from a car fire.
On Monday, Aimee Bennet, The Grossman Burn Center spokesperson, shared the first photo of the former “Tonight Show” host since he suffered burns to his face, neck, chest, and hands
“After a 10-day stay at the facility, Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic,” she explained, adding Dr. Peter Grossman stated he is “pleased with Jay’s progress, and … optimistic that he will make a full recovery.”
Leno was said to be feeling discomfort, with Bennett passing along that the host has “has a very high pain threshold.”
She added, “Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received and is very appreciative of all of the well-wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”
The fire occurred at the Burbank garage where Leno stores his outstanding collection of cars and other motor vehicles. In a statement last week, Leno referred to the burns as “serious” but said he would need only “a week or two to get back on my feet.”
According to Grossman, Leno had undergone one surgery with another on the way.
“I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery,” Dr. Peter Grossman said in a statement announcing Leno’s release.
Grossman said he expects Leno to make a full recovery but that it was too early to know if there would be “remnants” of the injury. He didn’t elaborate.
The 72-year-old currently hosts “Jay Leno’s Garage” and the latest revival of the classic quiz show “You Bet Your Life.” Known for his passion for cars, Leno has an extensive collection of automobiles and motorbikes.
