The family of comedian and actor Sinbad released a long-awaited update on his condition two years after he suffered a severe stroke that left him unable to move parts of his body.

Since suffering the stroke on October 25th, 2020, Sinbad endured two blood clots in his brain and underwent two procedures to remove them. However, the second surgery took a harsher toll on Sinbad, leaving him paralyzed on his left side. He would eventually fall into a coma, where he remained for several weeks. In May 2021, he would finally come home after months of rehabilitation. While Sinbad still has quite a ways to go in his recovery, his family says he has beaten great odds.

“Limbs that were said to be “dead” are coming alive, and he’s taking the steps necessary to learn to walk again,” the statement read.

Sinbad is widely regarded for his impact on 90s comedy and media. He appeared in several kids’ films, including “Shazam,” “Good Burger,” “First Kid,” and “Houseguest.” His HBO comedy stand-ups were equally as popular. Following news of his health issues, fellow comedians D.L. Hughley, Lavell Crawford, Earthquake, Arnez J, Bruce Bruce, and more rallied for “1 for Sinbad,” a charity comedy show that raised money for Sinbad’s medical costs.

Even with the success of the show, his family was forced to establish a website seeking assistance for the 66-year-old.  Thejourneyforward.life is accepting donations that will go directly to the Adkins Trust, which will distribute the funds to all relevant medical bills.

Despite his setbacks, Sinbad is feeling encouraged, ensuring fans, “I will not stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again.”
