NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed announced on Saturday that he will not be the next head coach at Bethune-Cookman University after contract negotiations stalled.
Reed, 44, said in a statement that his legal team had been working with the HBCU “to craft contract terms with the language and resources we knew were needed to build a successful football program.”

The nine-time Pro Bowler and the school “entered an agreement in principle” in December. However, after weeks of negotiating, Reed said he was informed that “the University won’t be ratifying my contract and won’t make good on the agreement we had in principle.”
The decision comes after Reed trashed Bethune-Cookman for being dirty and for not cleaning out his office in a now-viral social media post. He apologized the following day and addressed the issue in a 15-minute goodbye on Saturday.
“I’m a good man, not perfect,” Reed said. “We all make mistakes, and I apologized for mine.”
Reed had spent the last three seasons as part of Miami’s support staff with the Hurricanes and was a senior adviser under head coach Mario Cristobal. He was set to replace Terry Sims at Bethune-Cookman, who was fired after the Wildcats went 2-9.
