Rapper T.I. has carried the “King of the South” title for some time now. But he’s ready to step down after he releases what he says will be his final solo album.

“Kill the King” is in the works. The hip-hop legend told TMZ the album would end the famous tagline he adopted years ago.

The Atlanta rapper told the outlet that he went for the vacant name after he heard fellow rapper Mystikal call himself the “Prince of the South” on the 2001 album “Tarantula.”

He added that he received blessings to call himself “King of the South” from other hip-hop icons like Outkast, Scarface, 8ball, and MJG, but Big Boi told him to be mindful that that title can come with a supersized can of worms.

T.I. admitted that wearing the crown certainly did. Although short-lived, there was beef with Ludacris and his camp and others for proclaiming the throne.

There isn’t a release date for his final project, but T.I. revealed there would be a banger from Jermaine Dupri on the album.

T.I. has his hands on other projects as well. He recently signed on as a brand ambassador for a Black-owned cannabis company and is looking forward to the 20th anniversary of his classic breakout album “Trap Muzik.”

For the 15th anniversary, T.I. and Grand Hustle debuted Trap Museum in Atlanta, it’ll be interesting to see what he has in store for the next milestone.
