If your Starbucks coffee has you on the toilet more than usual, you are not alone.
Customers of the coffee icon have been sounding off for days about the brand’s new Oleato line. This new offering of coffee products is created with Partanna extra virgin olive oil and is rumored to give all who drink it the runs. The popular European coffee style first debuted at Starbucks locations in Milan in February before heading to the United States in March.
While the company is standing by the new products, a subreddit thread documenting these liquid laxatives is gaining traction across the web. Dozens of customers have flocked to thread, finding community with other victims of the caffeinated oily drinks that seem to come with a double dose of bubble guts.
“I’ve tried them, and tbh, after drinking them, honestly, they just felt sick to my stomach lowkey… like I had no appetite at all after,” one user wrote. Another commenter revealed, “I tried one and immediately had a shooting stomach pain, so this is going to go over so well.” Other customers have complained that beyond the tummy aches, the Oleato drinks look unappealing due to the oil separating from the coffee. Some report a pungent smell and an overwhelming oil taste.
Beverages in the lineup include the Oleato Caffè Latte, Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso, and Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew. As of now, Starbucks is either unaware of the backlash or simply doesn’t care. They plan to bring the Oleato collection to locations worldwide, including Japan, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.
