Los Angeles prosecutors are seeking a 13-year prison sentence for Tory Lanez in connection with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

Journalist Meghann Cuniff, who has closely followed the court proceedings, reported Tuesday that prosecutors filed a memorandum urging the court to consider Lanez’s alleged “campaign of misinformation” against his victim during his sentencing.

“Words have power and the pen is oftentimes mightier than the sword. In this case, Daystar Peterson used both,”  read the memorandum filed Tuesday, which referred to Lanez’s birth name. “Not content to have hurt the victim by use of his sword (gun), he also used his pen. His online posts for nearly three years have re-traumatized the victim.”

“His online reach is worldwide (millions of followers plus casual observers) and the defendant’s statements embolden his followers so that they too have been complicit in re-traumatizing the victim,” the memo continues. “He is responsible for the effect of his words and his actions.”

In addition, the memorandum references an “unprovoked attack” on singer August Alsina in September 2022, Lanez’s full-length album with several songs about the shooting” and three instances of violating court orders prior to the trial as evidence of a lack of remorse.

Lanez is scheduled to be sentenced next Tuesday, June 13, after being found of assault with a firearm, concealing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in December 2022.
