Suge Knight may have lost his friend and artist Tupac Shakur, but the former Death Row exec is not interested in helping prosecute one of the men responsible.
The former producer, who was sitting next to Shakur when he was gunned down in September 1996, is one of the few people with firsthand knowledge of exactly who killed the rap star. However, he is adamant that he will not assist the prosecution in any way to convict suspect Duane “Keefe D” Davis.
“I’m not going to get on the stand and testify … 1,000% I wouldn’t go. I wouldn’t testify, none of that sh**,” Knight said in an exclusive prison call with TMZ.
Knight is currently serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter after running over and killing Terry Carter while Knight was trying to run over rival Cle “Bone” Sloan. Knowing how prison life is, Knight does not wish such a fate on Davis, saying, “At the end of the day…free Keefe D” during the interview.
Davis has been arrested for the murder of Shakur, being officially charged with open murder with a gang enhancement. While he was not the shooter, Davis has long claimed in interviews and his book that his nephew, Orlando Anderson, was the shooter, though he claimed he provided him with the firearm. Anderson died in 1998 in a non-related shooting. Other witnesses in the car that night have also passed away over the years, leaving only Davis to tell the story. Even with his confession of being with the shooter during and after Shakur was gunned down, Knight does not believe Davis was involved and even questions whether or not Anderson pulled the trigger.
Nevertheless, prosecutors are moving forward with trying Davis for the crime, though it is unclear whether or not Knight’s lack of cooperation will hurt the case.
