Duane “Keefe D” Davis said he made up stories about Tupac’s murder for “entertainment purposes” while thinking he was immune from prosecution.
Keefe D pleaded not guilty last month to a murder charge related to Tupac’s death, specifically for promoting or assisting a criminal gang with a deadly weapon.
Lawyers for Davis are requesting a pre-trial release, asserting that he’s “not a threat to the community” or “a flight risk.” They propose releasing him on his recognizance with an ankle bracelet.
They’re seeking bail under $100,000, citing health concerns.
In the new filing, lawyers said prosecutors “did not introduce any independent evidence connecting Duane Davis to the shooting” but relied on statements from Keefe D’s book alongside “an astounding amount of hearsay.”
Additionally, his lawyers claim: “The book and video interviews were produced for a financial benefit under the belief that Duane had immunity.”
His lawyers further argued: “The truthfulness of the content of the interviews was never verified. The book and interviews were done for entertainment purposes and to make money from a situation that Kading and others had already profited.”
Keefe D has a scheduled hearing set for January 2.
