Ex-Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. has reached a plea deal in his domestic violence case.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Porter Jr. pleaded guilty to reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree. This is a sharp contrast from his previous not-guilty plea to two felony assault charges in September 2023 for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend and WNBA player, Kysre Gondrezick. He previously shot down an earlier plea deal as well.
The incident, which occurred at a Manhattan hotel, left Gondrezick with bruising and a laceration above her right eye. She’d also accused Porter Jr. of choking her, which further caused difficulty breathing, redness, bruising, and substantial pain. She was taken to the hospital after escaping the hotel room. Gondrezick was reported to have suffered a fractured vertebra during the assault. However, in October 2023, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Mirah Curzer ruled that the fracture was not the result of the assault and was instead a birth defect. This led to Porter Jr. being cleared of the second-degree assault charge, though he still faced others stemming from the incident.
It does not appear that Porter Jr. will serve any jail time related to the charges. Instead, he has been ordered to complete an alternative program, and after a year, Porter Jr. will be allowed to withdraw the plea to assault as long as he fulfills the conditions of his deal. Porter Jr. is due back in court in November, where he must still face charges related to the strangulation.
Upon successful completion of the program after a year, Porter Jr. will be allowed to withdraw the plea to assault, according to his lawyers. https://t.co/vLXdhT0MrY
