Thanks to Netflix, Regina King, and Reina King, the remarkable story of Shirley Chisholm will unfold in the new biopic “Shirley,” finally giving her the recognition she deserves.
The film will focus on Chisholm’s presidential campaign back in 1972, in which deceit, trust, and triumph were major factors that shook things up during her candidacy. Regina plays the titular character and shares with Baller Alert her relationship with resilience after playing the political.

“It’s been a 15 year journey for Reina and I as we tried to figure out the stories we wanted to tell after forming our company so to make it to this finish line a decade and half later is an example of resilience,” Regina began.
Reina continued, sharing how they stopped production and came back to finish is also an example of resilience.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Regina in the public eye after the unfortunate loss of her son, Ian Alexander. Still, the support never stopped while she was out of action, especially with her Hollywood friends, such as Vivica A. Fox.
Fox shared with Baller Alert her “heart is full” to see her friend back in action.
“Regina King is a true gift,” she began.
“She’s a legend and has been doing this for decades. She’s an Oscar winner, a beautiful woman, and a beautiful mother. She has so much life to give and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.”
Christina Jackson, who plays congresswoman Barbara Lee, elaborates on working on set with Regina and says how “incredibly gracious” the 53-year-old was.
“Anything that I asked her and any questions that I had, she was there,” Jackson began.
“I’m truly grateful she brought me along for this ride specifically because it was important to her. I’m happy I was able to use the love on set so we could work together as a collective and finish the project.”
