From the moment Yung Miami and JT of the City Girls burst onto the scene in 2017 with their first single, “F**k Dat N***a,” fans gravitated towards the Miami natives. Their unapologetic lyrics told a story of overcoming South Florida beginnings to securing bags and finessing wealthy suitors. City Girls’ music angered some men with their rhetoric while boosting women’s confidence and getting the party going. The duo signed to Quality Control and released their debut mixtape, “Period,” in May 2018, featuring “Where The Bag At,” “Take Yo Man,” and “Clear The Air.” Even with JT having to turn herself in to serve a federal prison term in July 2018, the ladies continued to put in work. Their November 2018 studio album, “Girl Code,” was released as planned, with the absence of JT, and propelled them to superstar heights, producing their three-times platinum banger, “Act Up.”
Sadly, we’ve all witnessed the unity of City Girls crumble, which played out publicly this week online. Though it has been apparent for months that they are exploring solo endeavors, the ladies sprawled on Twitter, hurling allegations of jealousy toward each other. While the City Girls that we once loved may be a thing of the past, the countless victories they experienced together in such an amount will live in the hearts of fans for years to come.
