Ice Cube is hinting at some progress being made on the next installment of the “Friday” franchise.
Fans have been patiently awaiting the next “Friday” movie since “Friday After Next” debuted in 2002. However, after the third film, delays seemed to continue year after year. In the past, Cube and Chris Tucker, who were on the first “Friday,” even blasted Warner Bros. Studios for being to blame for the holdup. However, it seems things between Cube and Warner Bros. Studios could be better.
The West Coast rapper recently sat down with SiriusXM’s Flavor of the Week. During his talk with host Flavor Flav, the pair discussed the potential of the next installment, known as “Last Friday,” which has gotten new life.
“We finally got some traction with Warner Bros. They have new leadership. My man Mike DeLuca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first ‘Friday’ and ‘Players Club’ and ‘All About the Benjamins.’ Mike DeLuca was there, so now he’s running Warner Bro.,” Ice Cube told Flav.
It seems that the new leadership and Cube could finally be on the same page, though it’s unclear how soon the film production could begin. Another hurdle is that several key figures from the franchise have passed away, which has made it much more difficult. John Witherspoon, Bernie Mac, Reynaldo Rey, Tommy Tiny Lister aka Debo, Yvette Wilson, and A.J. Johnson, who were all stars in the original, have all died.
