Damien Leone’s third installment of “Terrifier” has stayed true to its scare factor, leaving viewers sick with fear.
The first screening of “Terrifier 3” in the U.K. took place this week, with many flocking to see the newest chapter of the demonic Art the Clown. However, the terrifying gore and shocking opening scene left audiences in a state of panic, with some vomiting and fleeing the theater during the early screening. PR representatives revealed that the opening scene was so graphic that Leone claims it prevented the $2 million movie from receiving any Hollywood backing.
This latest film in the blood-soaked slasher franchise was written and directed by Leone, the special effects mastermind who introduced “Terrifier” in 2016. It stars David Howard Thornton as the horrifying villain Art the Clown. For the first time in the franchise, Art’s gruesome killing spree unfolds during the Christmas season, picking up five years after the last film, when survivors Sienna, portrayed by Lauren LaVera, and Jonathan Shaw, played by Elliot Fullam, are still reeling from the trauma. However, they must face Art once again.
According to LADbible, by the film’s grisly conclusion, a total of 11 walkouts had occurred, and one viewer had vomited, though it’s unclear whether they left or endured the rest of the movie after falling ill. Though extreme, a similar reaction occurred when “Terrifier 2” debuted in 2022, with several outlets reporting people fainting and becoming sick inside the theater. While this may be disturbing for some, for a horror film connoisseur like Leone, this response is a good sign.
“Typically, people walk out of a movie because it sucks. When someone walks out of a Terrifier film, it’s a testament to the special makeup FX team. I guess we’ve done our job,” he told Screen Rant.
“Terrifer 3” will be released worldwide on October 11th.
